Updates on my Artisan handmade jewelry; Saxa Terra Sea Glass, Handcut Cabochons, and Wire Wrapped Jewelry

Wow it has been a long time. In the past year, I have taken a long hiatus from my jewelry making. Some may think that I simply got burned out, however this is far from the case. I took a year off, because I was expecting. My beautiful baby boy was born in August.

As much as I love being a new mom, I feel like I have fallen behind. Some of the
artists that I have know have moved on to other things. This makes me feel
envious. I want to jump right back into the swing of things, but life has me
moving at a different pace.

Right now, I am trying to get ready for my Holiday show coming up in December. It will be the last show I will do this year. I am also in the process of updating the site again. I have created a new color scheme.

I am now carrying a new line of jewelry: Saxa Terra Sea Glass.

This line is created from my reproduction
sea glass. I am carrying both sets and earrings alone. I really enjoy working with my
Saxa Terra Sea Glass
as a medium. Every time I work with it, I feel like I am at the beach enjoying the surf, sand, and sun. I am currently experimenting with turning stained glass into reproduction sea glass. Stay posted to see the results.

I am also carrying a nice selection of
handmade handcut cabachon pendants. Each pendant is a hand cut cabochon that was designed by me and wire wrapped. Two of my favorite stones to work with has become Labradorite and Moonstone. You will find quite a few Labradorite pendants listed at my site.

I also have a spectacular handmade
African Pietersite pendant. The stone displays a wonderful pattern of reds and blues. I am absolutely in love with it.

Over the next few weeks I hope to update my site even further with my
handmade beaded and handmade wire wrapped necklaces. I also hope to create more jewelry for my upcoming show.

Go CANES! and Why I have not posted in a while!

Wow have I been busy.

It seems that I also need to re-update my site. The rankings have fallen a bit lately. I am currently photographing a lot of new jewelry. Everything from pendants and bracelets to new
necklaces
and earrings..

Anyway. Some of my new creations are chunky gemstone necklaces. Above you see a carnelian necklace that I have strung as a template. I am also creating a necklace at the moment from amazonite and wire. It is very trendy to say the least.

Another piece I have received comments on is a new pendant I created. The
pendant is a turquoise dyed howlite cab that is wrapped in fine and sterling
silver. On top of the cab, I have wrapped a fairy pendant.

I will be spending tonight watching the Stanley Cup match-up between the
Hurricanes and the Oilers. While I am watching, I will also be finishing up the
amazonite necklace. Go Canes!!!

What's Happening

I spent the weekend creating new displays to show off my necklaces. I created the displays from a bust pattern that I cut out of cardboard. I think spray painted the cardboard and lacquered it. Now I have created 6 displays that look a bit like stone marble.
On a different note. Over the next few weeks, I plan to begin placing information on different gemstones. I want to include the physical characteristics, the healing properties, common and uncommon form, and perhaps some trivia of each stone.
As I am taking a new class this semester, I will try to get this information up on a regular basis. But no guarantees on that. Time to get ready to head to work. Have a good day all.
Best Wishes from Eluna Jewelry

Back and Running

It's been a while since I posted. Life has been busy, in fact I have a new job I am starting today. I also have been spending time with a friend of mine who is heading to Iraq next week. I also start html classes next week. With things like this, the blog and website have taken a bit of a backseat.
Anyway, I have updated the website. I have added access to two new categories: bracelets and two-toned copper wire necklaces. An About Us page has been posted, and I am currently working to finish a policies page and a return form.
I have been creating new jewelry too. I have yet to take pics, so it may be a week or so before I get it up on the web. At present I am working on creating pendants. There are so many ways you can create pendants, from the woven sculptures to the wrapped cabs.
I am also in the process of creating displays. Hopefully I will be able to make enough to start selling cash and carry near Raleigh, NC. I eventually want to sell at some jewelry home parties and maybe some shows.
So come on by and check out our selection of jewelry. From magnetic necklaces, dangle and chandelier earrings, wire formed necklaces and bracelets, and beautiful jewelry sets, you should find a treasure trove of jewels!

Green skin and nickel allergy

A lot of my wire jewelry is made from copper wire. A lot of people have heard that
copper
makes you skin turn green. But why does this happen?

The natural acidity of oils and sweat from our skin causes the copper to corrode. This produces salts that cause the skin to turn green where they are in contact with the skin for a given length of time. Contrary to popular belief, the phenomena of your skin turning green from copper
is not a result of a metal allergy to copper.

As far as metal allergies go, nickel is the biggest culprit. I know about nickel allergies, my mother and myself are among those 15%. Since my mother' s allergy more prevalent than mine, it makes giving her jewelry as a present a bit tough. Her birthday was last month, so I did some research so that I could create a nice wearable necklace for her. Here is what I found:

Around 15% of the population have allergic reactions to nickel.

Most base metal alloys contain some nickel.

Jewelry Copper
does not appear to contain nickel.

White gold does contain nickel (it is one of the reasons the metal is silver colored)

Sterling silver may be coated in nickel to protect the finish. (The coating is not applied to all SS)

Fine silver, platinum and , yellow gold (above 18kt) are considered "nickel-free"

If you have a question about whether a piece may contain nickel, you can buy
a nickel allergy kit to determine if nickel is present.

Stress

Have you ever had a morning where you we rush for time, but still could not
decide what to wear? That was me this morning. I wore a beautiful olive green
sweater and I could not decide what jewelry to wear with my sweater. It is funny how the little things like which necklace to wear can trip us up, even more so when we are in a hurry and
stress.

On the flip side, they can also make our day. When you are blue, and someone gives you a compliment like " I love your sweater" or " Those earrings are beautiful with your eyes", it can be a good pick me up and help remove you from a large load of stress. I wish more people would take a few seconds out of the day to compliment others. Even a warm smile can help calm
the spirit and relax the mind. Pay it forward. Give a little kindness today!
